  • Over Canyonlands viewpoint, the moon slowly

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

…sets with Cirrus clouds moving overhead. Cirrus clouds, a thin layer of water 40,000 or so feet in the sky, pass quickly by with motion-blur due to the long exposure, which allows the illumination of the moon to be magnified on the desert vista below. Since it is so far below, the Canyonlands view stretches a vast distance, and the many stars of the night sky move as the Earth spins, and the moon with it, towards the horizon and out of the clouds.

    8 seconds and 11 frames.

  • Vast winter viewpoint from Inyo Mountains

    Scene notes:

… landscape below with Sierra Nevada range. On the Inyo range east of the Sierra Nevada, one sees deep into the range to the west, countless peaks spanning north-south. A few at right are under stratus clouds, but the large majority are Cirrus fibratus, dense enough to shade the landscape as they pass over the snowy Bristlecone pine-filled hillsides and slopes, which are some of the oldest trees.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    12 seconds and 13 frames.

  • Panning over Desolation Wilderness landscape

The protected landscape beyond is a mix of hilly forest and rocky land features of rugged terrain further away, with Mt Tallac visible in the far-distant left.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    17 seconds and 6 frames.
