On complex red sandstone formations, shadows shift intermittently and then for the end duration as the sun sets. Facing east, with mid-level Castellanus clouds appearing to move away as the camera physically pans to the right, where shrublands lay before the stones.

‘Congestus’ clouds high above in the sky, towering as their namesake suggests, orderly in their column of travel. They cover roughly two thirds to three quarters of the frame throughout. A five second interval is used.

A creek flows through a Colorado forest with a butte-sized land feature in the background (right) showing between the opening of trees at the river’s command. Clouds float and meander, building, above. The evergreen coniferous forest is just behind the large creek crossing, which has stones and boulders throughout. The creek is rushing in the sunlight after shadows from the clouds clear.

… from viewpoint of clouds slowly shifting shadows on forest. Nimbostratus clouds impose shadows upon the wilderness scene intermittently. The foreground, a viewpoint ridge which the camera pans over, is intricately detailed with yellow flowers and stone. The protected landscape beyond is a mix of hilly forest and rocky land features of rugged terrain further away, with Mt Tallac visible in the far-distant left.

The sunset from Pike Creek Vista, Grand Canyon. The northwestward view shows the canyon stretching vast distances under the sky, which comprises the top quarter of the frame. … in wilderness under clouds where the sun is seen. An exemplar of Altocumulus Castellanus near the center of the frame. Underlit with purple sunlight filtered from smoke, these clouds tower, owing that their names are derived from castle towers. At the end of playback, the sun can be seen brilliantly going down before disappearing into night. An airplane is seen zooming past in the sky, twice, in the upper-left frame. Upper-level Cirrocumulus clouds are gold in their altitude which gives them brilliant direct sunlight to the end.

Tufas are the unique stone structures shown at left in the moonlight, which also make visible the light and fluffy low-level clouds cast night shadows over the distant desert landscape, with stars present.
