‘Congestus’ clouds high above in the sky, towering as their namesake suggests, orderly in their column of travel. They cover roughly two thirds to three quarters of the frame throughout. A five second interval is used.

The continuation of another clip. The Lenticular clouds are dominant in the sky. Many levels of moisture enable these strange eddies of air currents to be cloaked in visible water. The landscape (nearby mountains) is contributing to the formation of these less common clouds. High above the desert landscape, a sliver of blue sky remains in the beyond, and Cirrus clouds are on the top layer.

… and their small lights ascending before dawn. Multi-categorized clip. The moon sets behind Mt Rainier. Looking closely afterward, a distant, single climbing party’s headlights are shown ascending the rugged and impressive slope overnight. Morning comes, a blue hour, and far, far behind some conifers, the snow of the mountain becomes pink momentarily against the rapidly changing sky, until the sky is light blue, and it is day again.

Pink light on the mid-level clouds. Strong radiant light passes through the atmosphere to create underlighting for the slow clouds overhead with no horizon in frame.

The sunset from Pike Creek Vista, Grand Canyon. The northwestward view shows the canyon stretching vast distances under the sky, which comprises the top quarter of the frame. Mid-level clouds shape the light above while the landscape shades itself, cliffs and precipices in the dark. The sun disappears below the horizon in this darkening scene. Original footage from 2005.

The tree line is a silhouette against the glowing sunset light, and is reflected perfectly in the pond. The scene darkens as the clip progresses, and the sun has set.

… in wilderness under clouds where the sun is seen. An exemplar of Altocumulus Castellanus near the center of the frame. Underlit with purple sunlight filtered from smoke, these clouds tower, owing that their names are derived from castle towers. At the end of playback, the sun can be seen brilliantly going down before disappearing into night. An airplane is seen zooming past in the sky, twice, in the upper-left frame. Upper-level Cirrocumulus clouds are gold in their altitude which gives them brilliant direct sunlight to the end.

This clip is illustrative of the under lighting that happens after the sun has set. From the altitude of the clouds, the light is still briefly shining on them, and the clouds are turned pink and red with oranges in between, and different levels of clouds are shown to move in differing directions according to the winds at those altitudes.
