The continuation of a clip from Day. Many clips of Precipice are like one another, and some share the same scene at different times. All Precipice clips take place on a steep drop-off, even if that drop is out of frame. They all have in common a cloud or fog layer either at below the point of view’s elevation and are at or near sunset.

Eleven distinct ‘waves’ of cloud banks can be observed spanning the clip’s payback. At this elevation, the tops of stratus clouds beyond and just a few hundred meters away move very quickly in the wind. An effect on the cloud from the land can be seen, owing to the ‘crashing’ transformation effect that the waves of clouds rapidly show. As the afternoon progresses closer to sunset, the color begins to change as well.

A continuation of another clip. The top fifty percent is a rolling fog layer of stratus. The base of the cloud is above ground, but the word ‘fog’ is used in this clip’s context; this is a ‘Stratocumulus’ cloud. It blankets a large area and is being blown on a strong ocean wind. Around 500 ft away in the middle-background, the transition between land and sky is not so clear. The tree line is shown being inundated intermittently. On a setting sun, the cloud glows colors of gold, with enough illumination for the grassy foreground.

… blanket of fog shines on forest at sunset. A marine cloud layer at about 3500 ft is the flank of Mt. June facing west. The sun is not yet visible in the frame, and the clouds begin to turn pinker as time moves forward,

As the point-of-view pans to the right over melting ice on a foreground rock, the fog, just beyond the close tree line below, begins to inundate. Sunbeams are observed during moments of time when the fog’s upper visible limit is the same altitude as the trees. On a grassy slope that comprises the middle ground, the fog eventually becomes an obscuring factor in the sunset light.

This wide vista is on the top of the butte called Spencer Butte in Oregon. The stratus of fog below and far away to the coast range is pierced by several hills and ridges with full tree cover. The foreground trees are silhouetted. The sun moves tower in the top-left, and the golds turn reddish. There is a layer of high clouds as well in the fraction of the frame that composes the actual sky.

… lit clouds on a forest wilderness viewpoint. Douglas firs stand into a patch of fog lit up brilliantly in the sun. The glow creates stark shadows where the trees block some of the incoming light. The closer the tree or object is to the source, the more light that it blocks. The fog is blown on the wind, and looking upwards in the frame, more fog glows brightly, further into the sky beyond.

Framed by trees on Mt June, this stable inversion layer is very close to the camera. One may assume fairly that the start of the clip is going to show the fog coming in quickly, but this does not happen. Explanatory info: Batteries of cameras do not last long in the mid-2000’s due to contemporaneous technology.
