Towering congestus clouds, benefiting slightly from orographic lift, float from the peaks of the southern Sierra Nevada range. As tall as the mountains they seem to stand on, they transform as they grow and lose energy away from the peaks, evaporating. On these snowy mountains, their shadows travel. Under the blue sky, which is four-fifths of the frame, high Cirrus clouds move the opposing direction.

The camera sits inches above rushing water which will flow into Lake Tahoe moments later. Boats are seen constantly motoring into this unique bay of the lake in the background, their wakes following and spreading out behind them. The middle ground is a landscape of rocks and evergreens. Light rays at sunset. Crepuscular rays fall from high humidity on mountaintops. The sun glows on the clouds as it sets behind Mt Whitney and the mountain ridge. The middle and background dims. The sunbeams shift as the clouds move and the sun sets below. The vivid, sharp rays are defined by the staggered peaks.

A fog layer that seems to caress the tree line on a hilly ridge just beyond. The camera moves to the right on a dolly over the foreground ledge. A fog bank is contained by the ridge line half a mile away, which extends across the frame. The stratus layer flows over the ridge line slightly, while the sky-blue ceiling in the top quarter of the frame is unbroken by any clouds.
