From a point in Grand Canyon, the horizon may be level, but the land isn’t; this is owed to the nature of the geography of the surroundings of the National park. The bright object illuminating the landscape is not the sun, but the moon. A long exposure captures the light for a period of time to greatly intensify the brightness of the scene in comparison to the human eye. Smoke wafts in the canyon from a wildfire.

Green vegetation on a snowy ground ends on the red rock that extends into the canyon, and further out, vast scree and boulder fields below followed by massive rock steps. Shadows from low clouds, mostly out of frame, creep along the canyon interior.

Mid-level clouds cast shadows of varying darkness on the Grand Canyon. While the North Rim sits at an angle, it will always annoy those who insist the horizon always be perfectly straight. But what happens when the Earth’s horizon does not sit perfectly flat? Such is nature!

In the mid-morning with clouds above and cliffs all forward. The continuation of a Night clip. The exposure has been adjusted for the daytime. The high Cirrus clouds are tending to clear, as well as the smoke in the window of the canyon beyond where impassable red rock cliffs, scree and degraded side slopes, and colluvium boulder fields dominate the land below.

…slowly on Grand Canyon desert in the distance, approaching Ten rock layers are visible in this vista, with ‘the great uncomformity’ (which indicates a gap in the geologic records) clearly visible as a rock step at the feet of massive boulder fields, which comprise much of a rim-like edge to the Colorado below. Light cloud shadows travel over the walls and slopes of the canyon. length at 30 fps: 11 seconds and 21 frames.

The sunrise is displayed on Grand Canyon, light slowly brightening. The clouds above in the shifting sunlight transform wildly in the new light, and then gradually lose previous semblance of color. Instead of being lit from below, the clouds above are lit from above shortly after dawn. The desert canyon vista that stretches many miles is eventually illuminated like any other day.
