An example of a partly sunny sunrise. The morning dawn sheds light on the mountain range, illuminating it in filtered sunlight, but halfway through the clouds have moved in between mountain and sun. Shadows of the clouds move in. Above and to the west, more clouds, a system extending so far off westward it is still night on earth where it reaches.

Deep flutings, cirques carve deeply into these mountains, and become ideal places for packed snow and ice. Slowly, low clouds creep above and on (center-left) the cornices and ridges of the mountains.

… sunset as blue surrounds gray forms. The continuation of another clip. The camera’s orientation and position has been adjusted. Blue hour on the Sierras, with low clouds showing terrain (orographic) effects of landscapes below, as air currents move in patters and are effected by changes of large scale on the ground. Here, the Sierras end in what is called normal faulting, and this has an effect on the clouds. The intricate movement is highlighted against a pristine blue dusk behind the clouds.

Looking south-southwest at dusk, post-sunset, towards the Pacific Ocean and Lincoln Park on the opposite end of the bay. Low tide, or wind, is responsible for the water’s direction. At the end of the opposing headlands, Seal Rocks, an outcrop of stones just off the beach, are near the center of the frame. Well past the time of day where details are apparent to the naked eye, the outline of a cargo ship leaves the bay, its lights are on as it begins a sea journey at night. The very steep Marin Headlands, the middle ground, is silhouetted on the ocean, in the lower right.

A 50mm lens at open aperture (f1.4). Far above a mountain peak, a mid-level cloud layer gradually works its way into the frame, silhouetted in the dark night sky. Coma (comatic aberration) is present at moderate levels.

Panning downward slowly, a slow moving rain cloud complex over a plan during dusk. Rain can be observed in the distance at the very bottom of the frame, as well as a distant tree line. The clouds range from strongly tinged pink to Halloween orange as the sunset progresses.

In the late afternoon, just before sunset, the sun has moved below the mountains. On the peaks, some clouds are created by the high winds and pour over the top of the frame. The foreground is a unique desert landscape of stone and decomposed granite.
