Day Timelapse

  • Ocean focused on gentle beach with clouds in distance

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A shallow and calm beach typical of the Gulf, three quarters of the frame is ocean with building tropical clouds in the distance, about one sixth of the frame, under a blue sky in the remaining six. A distant tree line far on the beach with tropical trees and signs of people on the left. Fine details of the ripples of sand under the clear water with caustic lights on the floor, the water is aquamarine up-close. 30 fps Time-lapse length:10 seconds, 22 frames

  • Winter in Yosemite over the woods and under heavy cloud

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

A three second interval is used for short timespan clips such as these. If not for the steep slopes of the valley cliffs, cloaked partly in dense winter fog, this scene could be reminiscent of many northern climates. The cerulean late afternoon sky is unobscured along much of the top third of the frame, but the clouds are moving everywhere.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 3 frames.

  • Half-frozen Tioga Lake view of Mt Lyell…

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

… under some very light transforming clouds and shade. North of Yosemite Valley is the highway to connect to the other side of the state. This Tioga Pass Road is closed much of the year due to snowfall. The snowy landscape vista stretches out to Mt Lyell of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, which passes through the National Park.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    14 seconds and 2 frames.

  • Yellowflag Iris in the shifting woods on a hillside

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

In the woods late afternoon. A large bundle of mature Yellowflag Iris in the breeze under the shifting tree shadows. A few small white flowers are also seen on the forest floor. Blue sky can be seen in between the forest trees. The evergreen trees are blown in a gentle wind, which is reflected in the movements of the shadows and plants of the foreground. Late in the clip, shadows have moved onto the blossoms.
Playback length at 30 fps: 6 seconds, 25 frames.

  • Ascending on unique rock formations of Alabama Hills in California

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

The UAS ascends steadily over a lifeless environment of unique stone formations, with high clouds motionless in the sky. The ground shows no signs of humans, but the sky has a jet contrail pattern. Two hills seem are composed only of very large boulders that cracked into pieces after cooling as magma. The area lives on an active fault zone, and certain hills show where these flows of magma end; in the last 10 million years, these hills have dropped 11000 ft (2750 m) and were once around the height of Mt Whitney. No interval was used with this full motion clip.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 6 frames.

  • Flying rapidly over Iceland above Snæfellsjökull

    Scene notes:

Snæfellsjökull National Park, slow life and the ocean briefly in the distance Slow life is plant life that takes a very long time to grow, just one person trampling these plants can damage the ecosystem for decades.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps): 56 seconds and 13 frames.

  • 2 of 2 Over Iceland, Snaefellsjokull National Park

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Over slow life. The UAS flies over a volcanic landscape and creek. Snæfellsjökull, a volcano in the background has a sheer drop off for a cliff face on one side. A flat layer of cloud, stratus, is on the top of Snæfellsjökull. The landscape is covered with slow life, and the formations are practically unique. The only place to safely walk without trampling vegetation is the creek bed and nearby road. Interval: none, real-time, full motion video.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    33 seconds and 26 frames.

  • 1 of 2 Over Iceland, Snæfellsjökull National Park…

    View with alternate video source

    Scene notes:

Slow life, newer lava flows, and a mountain in a cloud. A recently active volcano with very little in the way of sediment for plant growth. The UAS flies over a volcanic landscape. Shallow, frozen puddles remain on low points from recent rain. Slow life grows in what little soil there is; this ground is so new in its life.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    31 seconds and 22 frames.
