Iceland

  • Looking north from Gullfoss to Nýifoss and volcanism

    Scene notes:

…sharp hills in the distance under rain clouds in Iceland. Across a pleasant grassy plain, jagged and young volcanic features are cloaked on and off by rain under heavier clouds. This central point in Iceland is south of Nýifoss, which can be traversed on foot, but is relatively inaccessible. These volcanic landscapes are incredibly common in the east and west of Iceland but can be observed from the center of the island as well. Iceland receives a lot of annual rainfall but is usually no colder than New York city due to its marine surrounding. The rain feeds countless, innumerable waterfalls that are short-lived after heavy rainfalls. Some canyons are absolutely surrounded by waterfalls after rainy periods.

  • Flying rapidly over Iceland above Snæfellsjökull

    Scene notes:

Snæfellsjökull National Park, slow life and the ocean briefly in the distance Slow life is plant life that takes a very long time to grow, just one person trampling these plants can damage the ecosystem for decades.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps): 56 seconds and 13 frames.

  • 2 of 2 Over Iceland, Snaefellsjokull National Park

    Scene notes:

Over slow life. The UAS flies over a volcanic landscape and creek. Snæfellsjökull, a volcano in the background has a sheer drop off for a cliff face on one side. A flat layer of cloud, stratus, is on the top of Snæfellsjökull. The landscape is covered with slow life, and the formations are practically unique. The only place to safely walk without trampling vegetation is the creek bed and nearby road. Interval: none, real-time, full motion video.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    33 seconds and 26 frames.

  • 1 of 2 Over Iceland, Snæfellsjökull National Park…

    Scene notes:

Slow life, newer lava flows, and a mountain in a cloud. A recently active volcano with very little in the way of sediment for plant growth. The UAS flies over a volcanic landscape. Shallow, frozen puddles remain on low points from recent rain. Slow life grows in what little soil there is; this ground is so new in its life.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    31 seconds and 22 frames.

  • Autumnal trees near Canyonlands under high clouds

  • Thermal vents below in valley before a wide expanse

    Scene notes:

Expanse of meadows and fields under morning clouds in Strokkur, Iceland. The formation of lower clouds on the medium to heavy side play over the flat interior of the expansive plains below. Many small and medium-sized vents spout steam regularly, with a larger spouting from a vent midway through playback. The cloud shadows of the morning shift quickly on the green fields and trees that are close by.
    Time-lapse length (30 fps):
    11 seconds and 10 frames.
